Develop The Plan- Everyone should have a plan of escape in case of fire in their home, at school, at work, etc. Plans should be developed with all occupants involved. Taking the time to go over a plan with family members, co-workers, and others may save your life or the life of a friend or loved one. After the plan is drawn up, PRACTICE IT!.
Drawing The Plan- Graph paper is ideal to use for drawing your plan. Draw a floor plan of your home on the graph paper. Draw arrows on the plan to show the best ways out of the structure. Talk about possible obstacles, and the best way to avoid with them.
Practice The Plan- Taking time to draw a plan is great, but you must practice the plan. The environment you are used to suddenly changes during a fire. You may not be able to see, and it is very easy to become disoriented in your own home. The more you practice the plan, the easier it will be to use if you ever need it. Be sure the whole family practices and understands the plan.
