VOLUNTEER RECRUIT TRAINING

•  PURPOSE

To assure that all new volunteer firefighters receive consistent and adequate initial training.

•  SCOPE

These standards apply to the training of all new volunteer firefighters and address the following activities:

•  Training Academy (seven weekends within a ten-week period)

•  District orientation

•  Six (6) month review and one-year probationary period

•  Special training activities

•  AUTHORITY

The Operations Chief shall coordinate and schedule all recruit training activities.

The Training Chief shall ensure all recruit firefighters receive special training in the following areas:

•  Hazardous Materials Awareness and/or Operations level training

•  Infectious disease control measures and procedures

•  CPR training

•  All related mandated training (local, state & federal)

•  The assigned Battalion Chief shall conduct a six (6) month performance review of each new recruit.

•  STANDARDS

Applicants must complete all recruitment requirements prior to attending the academy and being placed on the District Volunteer Roster.

•  The applicants must complete the Volunteer Training Academy with a passing score.

•  Volunteers must complete all specialized training within the time frame established by the Operations Chief.

•  Volunteers must satisfactorily complete all tasks assigned during the one-year probationary period and maintain an acceptable level of alarm and drill response.

•  Volunteers unable to meet these standards will be dropped from the District roster or may, at the discretion of the Operations Chief, be placed in a special short term program designed to assist the volunteer in meeting the requirements.

•  A volunteer may request reimbursement for their drug screen test and one half of their boot purchase price upon completing six (6) months of service and receiving a positive review from their supervisor and the assigned Battalion Chief.
