A Shift Battalion Chief Mike Calhoun

Mike, a US Navy veteran, joined the fire service as a volunteer firefighter for JCFD5 in 1991. In 1994, Mike became a career firefighter for Fire District 3. In 2002, Mike was promoted to Engineer and then promoted to Captain in 2003. He was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief in 2015 and is assigned to ‘A’ battalion. Mike is a member of the department technical rescue team and serves as the team leader. In addition to that Mike is an instructional staff member for the non-profit Peak Rescue Institute, an organization teaching technical rescue. Mike holds an A.A.S. in Fire Science and is a part-time faculty member for Rogue Community College in the Emergency Services department. Mike has been a member of many committees for the district and currently serves on the Oregon NFPA 1006 task force.

Mike and his lovely bride Karinn have raised three children and call Medford their home. Mike’s hobbies include spending time at the family cabin at the lake, travelling, and coaching high school soccer.
