Division Chief/Training & Safety Dave Blakely

Dave Blakely began his career in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter with Valley Fire Service in Josephine County (now known as Rural/Metro Fire Department).

Dave worked as a Firefighter and Engineer until 2000 when he was promoted to Lieutenant and hired as a full-time employee. In 2004 Dave was promoted to Captain and then in 2007 was promoted to Battalion Chief of Training, in which he managed the department’s training program. In addition to his regular duties Dave was an active instructor/trainer for the department focusing on vehicle extrication techniques, apparatus operations, and was an active part-time instructor for Rogue Community College’s Fire Science program. Dave enjoyed instructing firefighter academies, developing course curriculum, and staying engaged with various other administrative responsibilities and project management.

On March 7, 2011, Dave began a new chapter in his career as the Division Chief of Training and Safety for Jackson County Fire District 3. Dave served on the executive board of the Rogue Interagency Training Association between 2007 and 2013, was a member of the ORCA Type II Incident Management Team as a Division/Group Supervisor, is the Planning Section Chief for the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Red Incident Management Team, and currently serves on various regional and State-level committees and workgroups.

Dave maintains various certifications such as Oregon EMT – Intermediate, NFPA Fire Officer III, NFPA Fire Instructor II, Wildland Interface Division/Group Supervisor, NWCG Planning Section Chief Type 2, and holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science.

In Dave’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, spending time on his quads at the sand dunes, trail riding on his dirt bike, home improvement projects, and anything else that may involve the outdoors or working with his hands.
