The Fire and Life Safety Department is responsible for fire investigation, public education/information, community development, and code enforcement. Fire investigation involves origin, cause determination, and coordination with law enforcement agencies on arson investigation. Community development efforts address zoning, street and water system development, and site and new construction plans review. All activities are coordinated with partner cities and/or Jackson County. Fire code enforcement efforts aredesigned to improve fire and life safety in existing buildings. Public education and information programs are designed to maintain public awareness of District programs and to encourage safe practices. Many programs such as child safety seat installations, bicycle helmets, smoke alarms, and wildfire safety are designed to target specific groups, problems, and/or areas within the District.
The Fire and Life Safety Department works with all other departments to ensure programs such as community events are coordinated and staffed, budgeted supplies are purchased, management reporting is occurring, and information management systems are maintained and periodically enhanced.
