Butte Creek Mill Deemed ‘Total Loss’ on Christmas
At 4:12 a.m., Fire District 3 was dispatched to a fire alarm at Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point
At 4:16 a.m. Fire District 3 arrived on scene to find the mill partially involved in flames. Firefighters worked quickly to put water on the structure to slow the fires progression. Five engines responded to the scene including, Fire District 3, Medford Fire-Rescue and Lake Creek Rural District
Ladder trucks were used to better assist in extinguishing the fire. Butte Creek Mill has been a historic landmark in the area for over 143 years. On the National Register of Historic Places, the world famous Butte Creek Mill “is the last water-powered grist mill, still commercially operating, this side of the Mississippi.
There were no occupants inside the structure at the time of the fire. A fire investigator is on scene and the fire is currently under investigation. More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
