District 3 Awarded Lowe’s Hero Grant for Fire Prevention Week
Jackson County Fire District 3 is excited to announce that they are the 2015 recipient of the Lowe’s Heroes Award. The $2500 grant will be used to purchase over 300 10-year smoke alarms and will be installed throughout the District in correlation with October’s Fire Prevention Week.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) key message of this year’s Fire Prevention Week states, “Keep your family safe with a working smoke alarm in every bedroom.” Roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep. Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half.
The campaign runs from October 4-10. It is essential to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. Larger homes may need more alarms. Visit NFPA’s “Smoke Alarm Central” for more information.
